Erasers, small notepads, sparklers and sweet, sticky caramels.

Julia Obermaier's jewellery and objects made of gemstones evoke familiar memories of childhood and youth. Scents, textures, small, gentle sparks or flavours are brought back to life. The fleeting nature of everyday moments from the past is contrasted with the durable, hard materiality of gemstones.

Seemingly banal objects are thus elevated in value. They appear as small, everyday treasures — transformed into trophies.

In 2024, Obermaier's work ‘ABLOOM’ was for the collection of the German Goldsmiths’ House. With ‘Julia Obermaier. Jewels of Childhood’, the museum offers an extended insight into the artist’s work.

Julia Obermaier was born in Landau a. d. Isar in 1989. She studied Gemstone & Jewellery in Idar-Oberstein and Advanced Design in Munich Since 2016, she has been working in her own studio in Kempten. Obermaier was honoured with the Homo Faber ‘Young Abassador Award’ in 2024, the ‘Art Prize of the City of Kempten’ in 2024 and received a Special Mention from the ‘Loewe Craft Prize’ in 2022.
